For my mom’s 60th birthday, we were tasked to find a small cake for dinner. We ended up getting the Almond Florentine from Grand Hyatt Manila, but not before we tried its mini version (in photo)! Because taste test matters...or an excuse to get a slice/miniature. 😂
Husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday breakfast. “Coffee,” I said. “And toasted pandesal with mayo and cheese.” So here’s my birthday brekky prepared by the hubby! Wheat #pandesal with mayo and matured #gouda cheese. The best things in life are simple. ❤️
Fireside by Kettle’s buttermilk fried chicken with cornbread doughnuts is so crave-worthy, PMS-worthy. Big serving. Share it with a person or two...or not!
Yesterday’s lunch at @sushinoriph | This spicy karaage donburi was ok tho the 🐔 was too tough as if recooked. I kinda wished I ordered some rolls instead (I love the Ninja and Sushi Dreams) or a poke bowl.
Let’s take time to appreciate restaurant interiors. After all, that’s the difference between dining in and takeaway food.
I have an unpopular opinion about Ooma. While tasty, gorgeous and obviously trying to get you the most out of what you pay for, it got me thinking about what I love about Japanese food: the simplicity and the reverence it gives to its ingredients, especially in rolls of sushi or maki. Unfortunately, Ooma’s food is *fusion* Japanese, hence the risky yet-very-Filipino takes. I asked my husband, “if you were a Japanese person, would Ooma feel like what Locavore was to Filipino food?” I kind of can’t say yes to it. Oddly, the best comparison I could make was (a pricier) Jolly Spaghetti to spaghetti bolognese—delectable, crave-worthy but I can’t call it Italian.
Maybe I’ll go to FowlBread today. *evil laugh*
Forgot to post this last week! Things are getting so busy I skipped market day for a week so I finally had to open that Spam Tocino can (also ran out of brown rice!) We had it twice, and the second time my husband requested it be crunchier on the outside. I say to anyone who will try this for the first time: Forget that it’s Spam! It’s instant tocino for those times you’re craving but don’t have tocino in the freezer. It’s a bit too sweet for me so I had it with spicy vinegar 😂May buy again to try it on bread (thank you for your suggestions!) like a sweet ham sandwich. ❤️ - PS- It cannot replace actual tocino though.
